**Aloha, dear friends and supporters,**
I wanted to take a moment to address something important with all of you. As of July 8th 2024, I officially left my band, Slack Key ‘Ohana. This decision was not made lightly, but it was necessary for my well-being and integrity.
As many of you know, I was the main songwriter for the group, the only one fluent in ‘Olelo Hawai’i, and deeply connected to Hawaiian culture. These aspects were not just part of my contributions—they were the heart and soul of what I brought to our music. Unfortunately, despite my efforts and the hard work I put into creating and recording our songs, I was not compensated fairly. Royalties that were rightfully mine were withheld, and I found myself being overworked to the point where my health began to suffer.
To be clear, I am not ill, as some have been led to believe. My resignation from the band was meant to be permanent from the very beginning. I was being used and could no longer continue in an environment that did not respect my contributions or well-being.
To all the fans who have supported Slack Key ‘Ohana, I apologize for leaving a group that you loved. This was not an easy decision, but it was the right one for me. I will not be performing music in the near future, but I am pursuing other avenues and may consider coming back as a solo artist if the time and motivation align.
Mahalo nui loa for your understanding and continued support. I hope our paths will cross again in the future, in a way that honors both the music and the culture we all cherish.
Me ke aloha pumehana,
Kamaka Mullen
